ArtScience Museum & Marina Bay Sands
The lotus flower-shaped museum was established on 17 February 2011. It was built as one of the attractions at Marina Bay Sands. Did you know that this is the first Art Science Museum in the world? This museum exhibits a fusion of art and science, with the aim to inspire creativity among its patrons. These patrons range from tourists to Singaporeans themselves. In relation to our country’s jubilee year, the ArtScience Museum will celebrate SG50 with an upcoming exhibition entitled ‘Singapore STories: Then, Now, Tomorrow’, which will showcase fascinating stories told through The Straits Times about Singapore’s progressive changes, dating from 1845, when the newspaper was launched. Visitors will see for themselves the various milestones the country has gone through and how the nation was built towards independence and success, keeping in mind how these defining moments will affect us in the future.
Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort located along Marina Bay waterfront. It features three cascading hotel towers topped by the SkyPark, a signature attraction in Marina Bay Sands. Such attractions also include 'floating' crystal pavilions, the ArtScience Museum which is inspired by a lotus, retail stores featuring luxury brands and also more commonly known as The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, Celebrity Chef restaurants, entertainment at the theaters, also known as the Grand Theater, night clubs and a Las Vegas inspired casino.
The resort and SkyPark officially opened on 23 and 24 June 2010 but it was not until 19 February 2011 when Wonder Full, a signature attraction in Marina Bay Sands, marked the full completion of the entire integrated resort. Many locals are still visiting this landmark. However, the resort is usually filled with tourists from many different countries. It is important to preserve this landmark in the future as it is a globally recognised icon that attracts tourists. The Singapore Tourism Board wanted to attract more tourist so they came up with the idea or Marina Bay Sands and also, they wanted to improve the CBD area. Lee Kuan Yew also had an idea to make Singapore a more vibrant city, so, Marina Bay Sands was built.
