Capitol Building

17.png Capitol Building, Singapore was completed in 1933 and was built in an eclectic neo-Classical style. At that time, it was one of they very few air-conditioned theatres that showed English-language movies. However, during the Japanese occupation, the Capitol operated under the name Kyo-Ei Gekijo till 1944. The English language movies were also not allowed by the Japanese who showed their own movies. The theatre had 1,686 seats and after 1946, was renamed as Shaw Building. It has been 17 years after since the theatre closed in 1998 but in May 2015, it will open its doors again to the public. The new building will house a wide range of delicious food and thirst quenching drinks, a little oasis, and the new and only dual purpose theatre in Singapore which can host arts and film events.
