Construction of the Esplanade began in 1998 and was completed in October 2002 at a cost of S$600 million fully contributed by Singapore Pools (Private) Limited and Singapore Totalisator Board. It was named after the nearby Esplanade, now referred as the Padang, and is opened to everyone. It is a place where you can enjoy the beauty of arts.The Esplanade is a performing arts centre of 60,000 square metres located in Marina Bay with performance venues such as the concert hall, theatre, recital studio, theatre studio, drama centre and Victoria theatre and concert hall. The library@esplanade is Singapore’s first performing arts library which offers information and services about music, dance, theatre and film. It is located on the third floor of The Esplanade.
